What's the feed URL you are using? This: http://feeds.feedburner.com/ChowLosAn...

    Or something else?

      I'm guessing he means: http://chowhound.chow.com/boards/2/rss ?

We've gotten the occasional complaints about the RSS feeds (mainly in Google Reader) in the past, but when others check them, they always seem to be updating and working correctly for everyone else. And then in a few days, they fix themselves for the original user, as well. I'm not sure what causes these mini disturbances in the force, but they do seem to be short-lived.

The Los Angeles feed is working fine for me in Google Reader at the moment, as an example, and it's the same feed.

Lovely then. Also, we're going to pull the sticky posts out of those feeds.

I have been using Bloglines as my reader. I setup the Los Angeles Chowhounds link originally using the RSS Feed link at the top of the LA page (image of the button shown below). It worked fine for a number of months but it stopped a few days ago.

I appreciate the notes, but has anyone from the Chowhounds technical team looked at this? Is there a better way to contact their web people directly?

Sorry -- we should be more careful about making it clear who we are. 5 and Dime Eater is our product manager and I'm the community manager for Chowhound.

Thanks! You are right it wasn't clear - I appreciate having this communication path with you because it is obvious I need help.

Is there an issue with Bloglines and Chowhounds? One of your notes above mentions that Google Reader is working well - would you suggest I try a different reader? As to your note the issue clearing up - I have seen that happen with other blogs so I waited a few days before I wrote my initial note. Any suggestions?

          Thanks again!

I don't think there's a particular issue with Bloglines and Chowhound. I've occasionally had Google Reader stop updating one of our feeds, as well, but they do always seem to be working correctly on our end when I've looked at them -- the same feed never seems to be down in both Google Reader and Bloglines at the same time so it's not just a feed issue.

Some people have had some success with removing the feed and re-adding it back to their list, though that's not worked for me when I've tried it, unfortunately.

I realize this isn't all that helpful. I wish I could give you a quick solution, but unfortunately time seems to be the only surefire cure for this issue that I've found.

It must be a specific Bloglines issue - the feed is performing correctly - http://chowhound.chow.com/boards/2/rss

Jacquilynne's suggestion is a good one. Bloglines might be caching the feed or otherwise choked on it causing it to permanently fail.

I agree, it can be super confusing, especially when some staff who post less often don't always identify themselves in their posts - or even for a newbie who may not know yet who "jane" or "Jacquilynne" are.

Have you considered consistently appending a CH_ in front of *all* staffers'/mods' names, or have *all* CH personnel sign their posts accordingly? Or have a consistent avatar for all CH staff/volunteers, such as the "C" used by the design team in their posts? Anything clear and consistent would be useful. Just some suggestions from someone who used to manage another online community at one time - take 'em or leave 'em. :-)

We've tried to avoid permanent markers of "staffness" because we would like staff to also be able to participate in the food conversations as just ordinary users without being conspicuously called out as staff.

I actually have my "I work here!" sig hot-keyed so I don't even have to type it in. I just ... forget.

ANSWER! It was a Bloglines problem. The following was posted today and the problem has gone away:

Hi Blogliners: Some folks might have noticed that specific feeds were not updating recently on Bloglines, and we wanted to update you and fill you in on what’s been going on. We have figured out what the glitch has been. Over the weekend, a fix was released on Bloglines to resolve the issue. All feeds should now be updating and back to normal. If you're still experiencing problems you can report a stuck feed here: Contact Us.

We apologize for any inconvenience to our users. Thanks for your patience, and for using Bloglines

To the Chowhound technical team - Thanks again for your help!
