Saigon Cuisine at Tanforan in San Bruno- great place for a quick lunch before heading to the airport
Happened upon this place while walking through the mall. I was impressed that at 11 am on a weekday morning, about 5 tables were occupied. By noon, when we were paying our bill, the place was full.
I really enjoyed the grilled pork with fresh mint and vermicellthe seasoning on the pork was addictive, and my mom thought the seafood noodle soup (their version of my tho soup-I think it was number 18) was the best version she has tried- and that's the dish she orders at every Vietnamese restaurant we visit. The fresh spring rolls/ goi cuon were good, with large shrimp, roast pork, and plenty of herbs, and were made to order ( always should be the case, but doesn't always seem to be the case), but the mains were so large that I think I'd skip the appetizers if I were to visit again.
The portions are on the generous side. Haven't tried other Vietnamese places in the Bay area, but I liked this place more than any of the Vietnamese places that I've found in Toronto where I'm based.
And best of all, it's only a 5-10 minute drive from the airport!
That sounds tasty. Best of all, it's 5 minutes on BART from Tanforan (which is the San Bruno stop) to SFO.
For years I've recommended Millbrae as convenient to airport dining, but thanks to BART changes putting the airport and Millbrae on separate routes, San Bruno is now easier.
