Good place near JFK to hang?

Hi. Seeing an a dear friend between flights for approx 3 hours. Any decent chow place near there. I don't prefer a hotel scene. Any thoughts?

  1. You could get to Flushing reasonably quickly, but I would personally use the A train to get to Warung Kario for delicious Surinamese (think Carribean-Indonesian with Dutch and Indian influences) food or to Singh's Roti Shop in the same general area for exceptional Trini food. Remember to properly factor in the time to get in and out of airport security! 3 hours in airport time is not as much as many seem to think.

We went to Warung Kario after dropping a friend off at JFK and it was delicious! Thanks for the tip JFores. The woman behind the counter was also insanely nice and was very helpful when she realized we knew nothing about surinamese food but wanted to try it. We got stewed fish (delicious) with beans and cabbage, definitely dont skip the beans. And try the chicken liver/potato/gizzard mixture, if you like chopped liver it was perfect comfort food to mix with the rice. We also got an app of steamed veggies with peanut hot sauce--not a can't miss but quite good, and actually healthy! Also tried the STRONG ginger beer, can't stop drinking it though (took some home to make a dark n stormy). This is definitely my go-to place for trips to/from JFK.

Is Warung Kario near Lefferts Blvd.? I like to take the A there and change for the bus when going to JFK, so it would be nice to have a good place to take advantage of, time allowing.

It's not that far. Just ride the A to the end of that line (Ozone) rather than getting off at Lefferts. I usually get the bus from the J on Lefferts because I don't have good A access so I take the J from Jamaica.

Lefferts/Ozone Park is the last stop on the A (or those A trains that go to Lefferts). I looked up the place on, and the address is 12812 Liberty Avenue. According to Google Maps, that's a distance of .4 miles - not so close for someone with heavy luggage, but definitely doable for someone traveling light.
