I'm making a noodle kugel and have searched and selected several recipes that I'll combine. I need a crunchy topping. Those I've selected suggest as one of topping ingredients, crushed corn flakes. I wish something that doesn't depend on packaged 'product.' Suggestions appreciated.

Bread crumbs, Panko, fried onions (you could fry them yourself if you want)... or just broiling the top so the upper noodles are crunchy

I make noodle kugel all the time and when I bake mine, the top layer of noodles get nice and brown and crunchy. I can't imagine adding anything else for a crunchy topping.
