  1. No need to yell. I'd suggest picking up a local paper when you get there as that is often where they advertise their off season deals. We don't have many (if any) Aspen locals who post here regularly.

I just made my first visit to Aspen and I followed what little dining info I could find by searching out bar seating deals. An Italian place called Mezzaluna had a menu posted out front listing the happy hour deals as well as the bar seating deals. The bar deal ran all night and was close to half off the normal menu pricing. The bartender gave us the regular menus at first, we had to request the "bar menu" in order to get the deals.

An above-average wood-fired pepperoni pizza was $7 and a fine spaghetti bolognese was around $8. We also had a delicious simple green salad which was around $4. We thought the portion sizes would be smaller like the prices but neither of us finished more than half of our entree. I think two average eaters could each do a salad and split a pizza for $15 (before tax/tip).

Tried Mezzaluna last night - in regards to the bar menu deal, get there early - when we arrived around 6 p.m. (early for dinner!?) the bar was already full. Be prepared if you want to eat at the bar as you will be expected to cram in there, with a crowd of "locals" who will be parked there for the evening.
Server was not willing to entertain providing the bar menu at a regular table, even though the bar seating was at capacity. Chose to stay at a regular table and eat anyways - meal was very well done, although not "the deal."

    2. You can look up the two local papers, Aspen Daily News and The Aspen Times, online. The e-editions will have any off-season specials in their advertising.
