Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in Dallas-Ft. Worth area.

Visiting Irving, seeking recs

Hello Hounds,

I will be in Irving for a couple of weeks (weekdays only), staying near the airport, and will have a rental car. I am looking for places to eat, ideally within 15/20 minutes drive say from Fwy 635 and Belt Line Road ; I am pretty much open to any kind of good food: Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Malay, sushi, Koran, Indian, steaks, etc.. When possible, though not a nessecity, I enjoy eating at the bar. Budget is $50 more or less, though I expect to pay less for some ethnic places. For ethnic places, I tend to prefer the "authentic" places. Booze is a plus, though not a strict requirement. Good, clean, fresh food is mostly what I am after.

I'd appreciate if you have specific favorite or specialty dishes that you would recommend.

Thank much in advance.

    1. TH,

This previous post is about the same general area and should have some of the same recommendations.

Most ethnic places especially Chinese and Vietnamese do not have bars, although some might have a BYOB policy and you would need to call beforhand. I would say 90-95% of the recs would definitely fall in your price range of $50 or less.

        1. Pad Thai on Walnut Hill LN at Beltline Road (very casual, cheap).

I really like Thai Noodle on Las Colinas Blvd.

                  1. There's a lot to explore in Irving. More than even most of its residents are aware of.

My favorite place since moving here a few months ago is Temptations Himalayan. I'm pretty certain there is a thread dedicated to them.

                        Kindof,

I linked to a previous post where I had Coppell and Carrollton covered I also added in our Temptation Himalayan. Thank you for the recommendation and also recommending it again.

Definitely a "fast lunch" spot with good food - probably equally good at dinner. And by fast, I do not mean to imply fast-food. This is a full restaurant with all amenities. Chips and salsa were served simultaneously to us being seated and given the menu. Before our napkins were in our lap, our waitress was taking our drink orders. The lunch menu consists of about 8 entree staples of which, you select 2 (served w/rice and beans) for @6.00. In addition, there are about 10 additional menu items ranging in price from 6.00 to 8.00. We were served within 10 min. of placing our order. HOWEVER, on this day the check was very slow to arrive, so if you're on a tight schedule, request the check at the time you receive your food.

The chips were light and crispy, the salsa sweet and fresh, yet holding a lingering heat factor at the back of the throat. Both were fresh tasting and well above average.

I was really happy with my chicken enchiladas, although the chicken *could* have be seasoned a little more. But the sour cream sauce is one of the best that I've ever tasted. It actually had a tartness that I have come to expect from.... hello?...... sour cream? The refried beans were very creamy without being a puree. I'm not a huge rice fan, so even though it was on my plate, all I can say is that it did have a moist appearance, it was orangey-yellow and had a smattering a peas scattered throughout.

My friend had a beef, hard-shell taco and chicken enchilada. The taco shell had a rustic appearance to it. I was told it was exceptional in taste, and it, nor the ground beef filler were a bit greasy.

The lunch menu was only a single page, having no information other than the menu items. SO, I have no idea what's up with "7 Salsas" in the name. We were only served one. I meant to ask, but........

The decor is dimly lit, upscale with gas lamps and pictures of matadors selectively adorning the plaster finished walls. Separate bar/smoking area available.

I've since been here for a second visit and while still pleased with food and service, the taco did not arrive with the same rustic appearance, so not sure what to say about that......
