Panchito's Broadway Cafe in South Yonkers- review

hey all,

So after some disappointing experiences with Latin food in Yonkers, I asked my babysitter where she goes and she recommended this place. I went with my husband and 2-year-old last night, and we really liked it! I had stewed oxtail, yellow rice and beans, and tostones, my husband had a "combination platter" of chicken, steak, and shrimp in a garlicky sauce, and my son had a burger and fries. (He had some of my rice and beans too. :) ) The oxtail was yummy, and the tostones were cooked just the way I like them (soft in the middle, crispy on the outside.) My husband's dish was unusual and yummy. Service was good, atmosphere relaxed and casual.

I guess our only complaint is that the neighborhood is a bit rough. We are not overly sensitive to this kind of thing; we lived all around the city for years and don't spook easily. But there was an extremely aggressive rose-seller guy who came in and wouldn't leave us alone; we've encountered him before in the area, and he must have a serious habit to support because he doesn't take no for an answer. And then when we got back to our car, there were some guys overtly selling drugs right next to it (I saw money change hands and heard the word cocaine a few times as we were walking over.) They were talking to their boss, whose SUV was blocking us in. They were nice about moving the car so we could get out, and didn't bother us any, but it was a bit disconcerting when we were out with our little one.

I'd go there again, but might be a bit nervous if we had to park any distance from the restaurant.

So that's the scoop! Anyone else tried this place? Or another latin place in the area?

I really enjoyed the only meal I ate at Panchito's, especially the tostones. We had the same experience with the rose seller, but fortunately, didn't have an up close and personal brush with drug dealers. It's been a while since I've been to Panchito's and thanks for reminding me of it as I will definitely return.
