It was a little early on a Friday, but I went to Belvedere Square to pick up something for lunch, and saw two people sitting outside Grand Cru having a glass of wine at 11:15am. I thought...that's the ticket! and went inside for a glass myself...had a wonderful New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc for 7 bucks, and ordered a snack of Pheasant and cognac sausages. They brought out two fat ones with a small dish of sweet onion relish. I'm telling ya...the wine and the food was some of the best...really hit the spot as a combination! I asked if I could buy the sausages, but alas, they import them. If you're looking for a good lunch...I can highly recommend this one! (of course I had to have a SECOND glass of wine, then a nap)

I was sitting at the bar to your left for the better part of the afternoon and I totally agree with your comments. Nelson and crew do a fantastic job and always make you feel at home. I had a few too many glasses of St. Bernardus 12 (thanks, Tim), a plate of charcuterie and some great cheeses before I stumbled out around 4:00. Can't wait to go back!

The sausages are made by D'Artagnan and I think they are listed in their catalog as "Duck and Armagnac"

Thanks Vespa1...found them. Wonder why the name change at Cru? I was there again yesterday for that great wine...this time had the smoked salmon appetizer...yummy...but do like the sausages better! Nelson said my going on Fridays was becoming a tradition!

Actually, the sausages at Grand Cru are produced by Fossil Game Farm & sold under the Chateau Royal label. http://www.fossilfarmsostrich.com/ I'm sure Nelson & the guys at Grand Cru would sell you some if you asked. Based on her menu description, I think Mulan might have Grand Cru in Baltimore confused with Grand Cru in Virginia. Understandable, since this board lumps Baltimore & DC together.

I am also a big fan of the place based on my one visit. I had the escargot appetizer (excellent), chicken (excellent), and chocolate mousse (awesome). I also had the Old World wine flights (also excellent).

I will be going back Monday with some gal pals. Unfortunately, I can't seem to drag my husband there--he finds the whole wine bar concept somewhat chi-chi.

It is supposed to be a nice (if small) fancy beer place as well, a small number of taps (maybe even a hand pump for real ale?) and a respected selection of Belgian and other bottles.

I have it on my list to check it out.
