Market Fresh Produce - Bogart GA

One the Atlanta Hwy (Statham side of Fresh Air bbq) there is a fabulous new produce stand. These folks are in the restaurant supply business, with an incidental road-side stand open to the public.

Here's the cool thing: if you don't see it on the stand, just ask for it. They have it. The restaurant supply part of the business is in the building behind them. High quality produce, wholesale prices.

I can't tell you how much money I've saved on my enormous chowhound grocery bill since discovering them.

Open 7 days a week, I think most days until 6pm. Much of their produce is local and they hope to remain open year-round.

I use them along with Backyard Harvest as my primary produce supplier
and have only good things to say about both. Sun grown produce and as
local as possible. I am right there with you as a fan of these guys.

They have had the best Tomatoes all summer. Beautifuly red, sweet and juicy. You must also try the homemade local bulk sausage. I recently made some sausage gravy with it for a pot luck at work and was the hit of the party. I try to vist them every Saturday. Just to let ya'll know, they ARE closed on Sundays.

A sad day for Boagrt and the Athens Georgia area. I made my usual Saturday pilgrimage to Market Fresh Produce this weekend. My heart sank as my car approached the market and pulled up in front to see the door locked and all the shelves bare of beautiful fresh fruits and veggies. There was a closed sign on the door, but the sign did say will re-open in October. One must suspect something more than just a family vacation, since we are still at the peak of the summer growing season down here in the South. Perhaps a change in ownership or perhaps a "gentle" way to just go out of business without much fanfare. Closing any business for a 6 week period of time could be fatal for the business especially in this economy. I will be pleasantly surprised to see them re-open in October like the sign says, but I seriously doubt it will happen. There won't be much for sale in October except for Pumpkins, Apples, Onions and other root vegetables. All the brightly colored summer stuff will be out of season by then. Alas, the search is on to find an alternative, but I doubt it will be as good as Market Fresh Produce. Good-bye, we will miss you.

To be fair I must report back and state that Market Fresh Produce is still in business! I plan to visit them this weekend. They now have a website:

Nice website! (And I didn't realize they were the wholesale providers for Five and Ten...just makes me a bigger fan.)

I'm glad they're still there, the folks that own/run it are super likeable. I moved from the area a year ago and miss that place. I used to shop there twice a week at least. When I left they were starting to increase their offerings of local dairy and meats. *sigh*... go for me, hounds.
