The Stix in Campton, NH - Unexpected Treat

My first experience with The Stix restaurant, recently opened, was seeing its folksy wood sign, held by a statue of a bear, haphazardly placed along Route 49 next to the TruValue. While somewhat quaint, it doesn't evoke confidence about the quality of the food. Being located in the tucked away shack where the previous occupant was the utterly dismal "Six Flags Deli" doesn't help either. After hearing a positive review, though, my girlfriend and I decided to check it out.

Don't let its questionable name and all its folksy accouterments turn you off, The Stix serves up delicious breakfast-lunch fair. My girlfriend's chose the Green Mountain, a turkey sandwich topped with apple slices, smeared with honey cream cheese all grilled up on your choice of bread. I went with the burger, rubbed with Cajun spices and topped with grilled onions, peppers, blue cheese, and homemade salsa. These entrees came with a choice of fries, pasta salad, potato salad, or coleslaw. We went with the pasta salad and potato salad, and both were quite tasty. Even the obligatory pickles were superb, with a much sweeter, less dill flavor that I enjoyed even though I generally do not like pickles.

The best, however, was the dessert. We got the maple syrup cheesecake and it was heavenly. It had a delicious cheesy texture, not cakey, with a light and refreshing taste that didn't weigh you down like so many cheesecakes do. It was topped with a layer of real maple syrup and fresh whipped cream that complemented the cheesecake perfectly. One of the best cheesecakes I've ever eaten, hands down.

Best of all, its prices were quite reasonable with our entrees clocking in around 7 - 9 dollars each and, at 12:30 on a Thursday, the place was COMPLETELY empty. This last bit concerns me a little, as places with food this innovative and tasty are almost unheard of here in the Campton area and, after discovering this gem, I would be crushed to have it close. It has an unfortunate location and the name and sign pretty much actively work against it. So please, if you are in the area and looking for something good for breakfast or lunch, give this place a try. You won't be disappointed.

Yes, unfortunately. Their hours are generally 7 - 2, but I think they're open to 3 on Friday and Saturday.
