bahar restaurant
stopped by at noon this week to place a lunch order. the restaurant stunk, smelled like it hadn't been renovated in years. it was dusty and dark and needless to say nobody was there except for, i suppose the owner and his wife sitting in the back. they stared at me like i had an arm growing out of my side. as he approached, i said hello and that i would like to order food and then gladly repeated myself waiting for something, a menu maybe... nothing. i walked out and went to my usual turkish lunch places. too bad for them, i spend hundreds of dollars a week on lunch in the area and was trying to spread the wealth.

As has been mentioned in other posts, Bahar (the one on CIA in Bklyn, I assume), used to be a high quality restaurant, one of the best options in the area, and according to some the best Afghan in the city. The bolani kadu (pumpkin fritters) alone were worth a trip. Many other delicious items on the menu. Not always prompt but usually friendly and attentive service. Not sure what happened, but the place hasn't been the same for over a year. Last time I went (many months ago), food was lackluster, though the service was not so abysmal as what you experienced.
I'm curious: what Turkish places do you like in the area? I usually go down to Tacis Beyti, but if there's an equally good option further north on CIA, I'd love to try it.
