Thinking about trying out El Gato Negro tonight for dinner.
Is it worth going?

I went! I enjoyed everything besides the chips. I had the steak fajitas with a watermelon margarita...which was yummy! My husband ate the steak burrito and he was very impressed. I have told many friends this weekend they should go!

      The pineapple-cilantro margaritas are amazing.

Also, try the pork tamales in real corn husks.

Would not waste my time or money. The chips were not even Tostitos quality. They come in a box from Sysco. The Salsa was tasteless. The food is way overpriced. Nothing authentic or even close.

i have to agree on the food -- having lived in socal, and enoying the owner's attitude (also from socal), i find the food pretty blah. chips are an embarrassment.

        margaritas are quite good, tho.

Yeah, the good buzz this place enjoys says more about the quality of Tex-Mex in New Orleans than the quality of the restaurant.

agree- the chips are terrible, but the acapulco salad was divine- the fish was fresh and delicious

Definitely. Granted, it's been a while since I've been but my friends who's taste I trust go regularly and I haven't heard of any slip in food/quality. Very good place to eat.

The fajitas are excellent. The margaritas are good too. Definitely worth a try.

I thought the tacos were good, especially the chorizo. The chips are unfortunate, however - Tostito's out of a bag. I hear they have good margaritas. So, yeah, I'd say it's worth going.

Fresh orange/satsuma margritas are delicious but not potent.
