Cheesemonger/Cheese Producer Lecture andTasting?

  • 3

Does anyone know of a cheesemonger, cheese producer or other cheese expert who could present a one hour combination of educational lecture/cheese tasting to a group? The event would be held in downtown San Jose, however a restaurant/storefront that the presenter is affiliated with that could accomodate 25-30 people, could also be an option.

In case that idea doesn't materialize, I was also considering a chocolate tasting, if anyone has any ideas about that possibility. I'm hoping one of these ideas can replace an annual holiday group luncheon which, although fun, is getting a little tired.

    1. I can suggest sources for both, but they're in the SF & N. Oakland area. Maybe they would travel?

      The SF Cheese School
      Scharffenberger
Market Hall Pasta Shop (for cheese)

Hope someone has ideas for S. Bay. Maybe call up cooking schools? Often they'll offer something similar & maybe they can schedule something custom w/advance notice. There's some big grocery chain I'm blanking on their name that offers cooking classes, some other CHer will probably know.

      1. I recently went to a cheese tasting/seminar put on by the owners of Cowgirl Creamery. It was not held in their shop, so I'd imagine they'd be willing to travel to San Jose. I would just call and ask. The tasting and information given in the seminar was quite impressive.

John Raymond puts on these tastings quite a bit. He's smart as heck.
Sometimes he combines them with wine.
Yes, also recommend Sue Conley and Peggy Smith of Cowgirl Creamery.
Laura Martinez, of the Artisan Palate, head of the Taste Workshops for Slow Food,
also of the California Artisan Cheese Guild.
