Dinner near Mt. Vernon Square

I am looking for some suggestions of a couple of a reasonable restaurants for dinner within walking distance of Mt. Vernon Square.

This is a toughie: I will be dining out with a co-worker who is used to fried chicken and hamburgers at fast food chains ( ugh!) but I am a non-meat / non- poultry eater (love fish and seafood) who eats just about every type of cuisine and is adventurous. Mexican, Italian, Asian are best bets, I suppose.

Is there a place we can agree upon? We are there for three nights - one of which can be a little pricier. I'm not fond of cafeterias - I like to be served after a hard-day's work at the convention center!

A short taxi ride isn't out of the question...

Thanks, in advance!

  1. For your pricier night: Right across on 9th street from the convention center is Corduroy. Or a block down is Acadiana. Both will give the two of you seafood, some adventurous choices and some safe choices.

For a less pricey night: Check out Vegetate which is about three blocks north of the Convention Center on 9th street. It's a wonderful vegan/vegetarian restaurant that you really need to check out. Your friend might not love it, but that risotto, is to die for. Another lower price night is go to Chinatown Express on 6th and H street and order the Fresh Noodle and Veggie Soup. It's great for fall weather and a bowl of it only sets you back $5.00.

    China Town Express
    746 6th St NW, Washington, DC 20001

1122 Ninth Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001

901 New York Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20001

    Vegetate Restaurant & Lounge
    1414 9th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001

Great suggestions! I am always up for trying new veggie places, so maybe we can split up one night if she doesn't want to go to Vegetate.

For casual check out the new Busboys & Poets. It just opened in City Vista (on 5th and K) and has many vegan and vegetarian options as well as pizzas, sandwiches, and entrees.

I hear their brunch is pretty good too, although I haven't tried it yet.

    2. You are about 3 blocks from Chinatown and 6 from Penn Quarter. I would suggest you do a search for those two neighborhoods to find good choices. there are plenty of them in that area!
