LET us Title A Topic Better! [moved from Ontario]
I am heading to the Orient for 3 weeks, I am leaving a small suggestion that could improve our interaction!
I find the requests for the " best " dah dah dah ", more than a little bit ridiculous. A general statement to cover a huge wide geographacal area, appealing to one's particular tastes, at the time, etc,
I think it would be in everyone's interest if we define the topic specifically!
Not in favour of a " best " , or such, it would be of a more interesting and thorough topic to expand the topic! Who really needs 200+ replies over about year on a very general topic.
Help yourself and help us all!
For example, I replied to a best sandwich and most people responded as to the best today, time recent, fine, I responded as to decades of excellence. As chowhounds know, the BEST is a timely thing for many reasons. Opinions, the best could be today and gone tomorrow or it could be a lasting overall general dependable non disappointing item!
To finalize, rather than just generalize a topic, you could always if required, expand your quiry in another question!
I post this because Chowhound devotees are concentrated within the downtown, expanding outward and in the outskirts 905 less attended to indeed. I suspect that there is no fault, likely inner city rely on the TTC and further out we rely on the automobile!
So, Chowhounders, expanded topics in heading would be great and perhaps to reply to such a topic and regionalize it would be better,
If we post best Pizza -- we get a huge area, if we post and add Downtown, or Scarborough, or ... or " Post Very Enjoyable Thin Crust Pizza in Thornhill/Richmond Hill, we might get responses not in Hamilton, Mississauga, etc. I think the same topic addressed carefully to different geography would reduce the actual required info. The expansions of a subject could be extended separately.
If not, in the meanwhile, ask for a simple request, " best pad thai ", and draw a circle from Oshawa, up around Barrie and drag it into Niagara, HELP!
Do people still still call it "the Orient"?
Anyway, I have found the better reponses to posts asking for peoples favourite chow items rather than best.
Although I agree headings could be more specific. And another point, it's supposed to be an Ontario board, and granted it's turned out to be very Toronto-centric, but so many posters simply assume everyone knows they're asking for a recco in TO without specifying. No wonder the Ottawa chowhounds prefer their own foodie site.
