Where has this been my whole life? And how did we ever have a holiday table without it?

I made one for Rosh Hashanah this week on the spur of the moment and boy, am I ever glad the Spouse suggested it. I used Joan Nathan's recipe from the Foods of Israel Today (she has at least 3 different version in different cookbooks) and we can't get over how great it tasted. My technique was a little off, especially since caramelized sugar seems to really hate me, but the sugar and black pepper taste great together. I may try a different version for Succos - more eggs, less oil, dunno, I'll see then - but kugel Yerushalmi is now going to be a holiday staple at our house.
