My boyfriend deserves a romantic night out to celebrate his birthday. I am looking to spend about $80-100 total. A good steakhouse, Italian or a menu with a choice of different cuisines. Someone suggested Porterhouse Bistro or Shanghai Reds. Please assist. Ambience and melt in your mouth food are required.

FRANKIE'S SUPPER CLUB on Melrose!!!!!!(x st Alta Vista) The food is great, the vibe so cool, Frankie greets you with a warm Brooklyn "Welcome to Frankies". It's romantic, fun, you will LOVE it! Last time I was there I had a great Prime Rib, and my friends were extremely happy with their fish and vegetarian dishes. Please forget Porterhouse Bistro, the steaks are fatty and not of high quality.

One of my favorite romantic spots is Pace (with an accent over the e) at the foot of Laurel Canyon just a bit past Sunset. Don't let the fact that it's tucked into the hills, underneath a neighborhood mini-mart scare you. Inside it's sexy, dimly lit and filled with a really great vibe. Try the cedar plank grilled salmon, the pizza (!) or one of their great pasta dishes. With your budget you'd have to stick with sharing an app. and getting pasta and maybe one special. Since there's only beer and wine you won't be tempted to go over board.

That said, If you want to go ALL OUT (apps/entrees/dessert AND drinks for under $100) I highly recommend the new LUNA PARK on La Brea (just north of Wilshire). The vibe is ruby red romantic (you can request a hide-away booth), the food is great AND really reasonably priced. Nothing on the menu is more than $14. Beyond having a full bar that serves the best Mai Tai I've ever had, it has an incredible and bargain basement priced wine list that won't break your bank. The Kunin Syrah for only $38 bucks? Are you kidding me?

I recommend the adorable goat cheese fondue to start off with ($7!), the Spicy Chicken entree and the Salmon. Save room for dessert. They have a killer coconut cream pie, make your own smores and a bananas foster.

(I'm a neighbor of Luna Park and an overnight regular, can't you tell?)

Have a great b-day dinner!
