I hosted a Rosh Hashanah Dinner for 9 last evening...everything went off w/ out a hitch except my traditional dessert of Apples and Honey was over shadowed by a presentation of chocolate brought by a friend.
She brought a beautiful presentaion of handmade chocolate truffles and candies from Julia Baker Confections in Scottsdale......not only were they beautiful....they were amazingly delicious!

Has anyone had any experience w/ Julia Baker Confections?

No. Down here in Tucson, though, the 20 people at the Rosh Hashanah dinner I attended were gaga over my dessert, comprised of Simply Bread's honey cake, apple cake, mandel bread, kichel and a few add-ons (leftovers, if truth be told, as I simply didn't have time to do a better job), plus some homemade hot fudge sauce. I've been instructed to double up on the apple cake for next week's break fast.

At my family's Rosh Hashanah dinner we had two challahs from Simply Bread (one plain and one wheat)...and they were amazing! I'd love to try other creations by them, especially that Funky Monkey cinnamon pull-apart I keep seeing at Whole Foods! I have no doubt that their other bakery items such as what you had at your dinner were delicious.

I'm confused. Is "Julia Baker Confections" actually a shop somewhere, or is it just online ordering? (Aside from that one website, the web search for it comes up kinda odd...)

I think Julia Baker is a specialty chocolatier...I don't think she has a store front but that you can order from her directly.....I plan on calling her for some holiday gifts......
I will keep you informed!

Thank you for the kind words, ciaogal. Julia Baker Confections is a small kitchen located in the Scottsdale Airpark where we make hand cut chocolates and amazing custom cakes from scratch. Julia Baker trained in Paris and only uses the freshest and finest ingrediants. We do not have a retail bakery and take orders online & through our sales department at 480-556-1356. Some of our clients include Jennifer Aniston, Paris Hilton, Brittany Spears, Alicia Keyes, Bono & U2...just to name a few. It's amazing to have someone like Julia right here in our own backyard. Please bear with us as we are having some techinical difficulties with our website and may take several weeks to get up and running again. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me personally at the number above.

I bought a box of Julia Bakers chocolates during a weekend get-a-way at the new Montelucia resort in Paradise Valley and was very disappointed with the quatity. The truffles had a sunken in appearance on the tops and some were rancid.

That sounds like less of a problem with the chocolates as it is the handling of them once they were at Montelucia.

Julia Baker is NOT the "chocolatier to the stars" as she would have everyone believe. I used to work at the Sanctuary in Paradise Valley and Julia Baker brought some of her chocolate to us asked us to give them as gifts to some of our celebrity guests. I know for a fact that she never met our guests nor did she do business with them. We asked for her help on a last minute banquet for one of our guests, she promised she would be there and she never showed up. I am the one that got in trouble due to her irresponsibility. Dessert was a disaster. She was very unpleasant to me and caused me some major headaches. Honestly, I can't recommend this overpriced person or company. Save yourself some BIG money and buy from someone else.
