I will be in Anaheim for business at the end of October. I'd love to hear you recommendations for two things: A great place for a group of about 10. Everyone will have different tastes. No chains please. Also, where is the ONE place that I must go on my free night? Something off the beaten path would be great. Thanks for the help!!

I would suggest Napa Rose at the Grand Californian Hotel at the Disneyland Resort for your free night in Anaheim. Fabulous food and one of the most awsome sommeliers in America.

I agree w/Napa Rose; it's one one of the best (in the top 3) in OC.

As for something off the beaten path, did you have a particular cuisine in mind?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Sounds like Napa Rose is a winner. OCAnn- off the beaten path could be anything from a unique cuisine to a taco truck. I don't need anything fancy (but fancy works too!). Thanks again!

If you don't mind my asking, where are you coming from? Ethiopian, for example, is exotic if you're from Kansas City or Reno but not if you're from Minneapolis or DC. Vietnamese might be unusual if you're from Chicago, but not if you're from San Jose.

Milwaukee...where Laverne & Shirley live.... My suggestion would then be for Mexican at El Farolito in Placentia...not too far from Anaheim (approx 10 minutes). Most everything is good there, the daily specials, the chili rellenos (my current favourite), carnitas, etc. It's Mexican home-style cooking in Old Towne Placentia. However, you'll want to stay away from their tamales (masa overwhelms the meat) and their fajitas (meat's a bit dry); otherwise, their stuff, I find to be addicting (I go nearly a week these days). Open b'fast, lunch & dinner.

Another thought is Honda-ya; a Japanese pub/small plates kinda place. I believe they're usually open for dinner. Though they serve some sushi dishes, they're cooked dishes are what's great. Good skewers, cooked fish, etc. Though it's in Tustin, I'd guess that they're just a touch more than 5 minutes away.

I must say that I would not select either Napa Rose or the White House if I were choosing a spot for a party. Although each may be good on a particular night, both (in my opinion, obviously) are extremely variable. I have had excellent meals at both....and have had awful meals at both. I would definitely select Mr. Stox in Anaheim over either. Mr. Stox is always very good, and truly excels in service. The food is very good, but it is the atmosphere and service that will make your night special. Talk with Curtis, the manager at Mr. Stox, and you can be assured of a very nice evening for you and your guests.

I took some guests to Napa Rose a few months ago, and although the food and service were both ok, the evening was totally ruined by a group with many children who had spent the day at Disneyland; the children were running around the restaurant screaming and crawling all over everything. This is obviously not the fault of the restaurant, but one of the risks you take when you go to a restaurant at Disneyland.
