Nettie's Crab Shack

I just read about this new place on Union Street in today's Daily Candy. It opens today. Anyone going to give it a try?

Nettie's Crab Shack may be a cutesy name, but the only crab I see on the dinner menu is a crab cake appetizer.

Maybe it's because local crab season hasn't started.

I just read "the Story" and "The People" on the site and it/they sound terrific, can't wait to try.

It's a shame they don't take reservations though, because I'm too old to drive over to Union and circle for parking only to find a long lie for tables which is what will inevitably happen over there.

I read those sections too, and all I will say is if they can cook as well as they can puff up their resumes, it will be good. I mean, is Spruce really "easily San Francisco's most anticipated and talked-about restaurant in years, and its most coveted reservation?"

If not "most," then certainly way up there (in hype at least). Nice pedigrees for both of them. Nice concept. Worth a try to me.

Also have reservations about the logo, what is it.... Oliver Octopus, Pepe del Pulpo, why not Daryll Dungeness or Clementine Crab??? (sorry, but my second favorite cephalopod is not on the menu either).

A couple of menu items caught my eye however, hangtown fry on the brunch menu, roasted beets, avocado & rock shrimp salad, and the jalapeno spoonbread okra and peppers would draw me in for a taste. Can't wait to hear the feedback from the local pack.
