online "encyclopedia" of food --- just found it!

alkapal Sep 29, 2008 07:50 AM

i was looking up something about skewering shrimp to keep them straight. i came upon this very useful "encyclopedia," and thought you might enjoy having a look!

it is very, very comprehensive, and has interesting information. caution: it takes a while to load, but it is worth it. lots of cooking terms, food items, techniques are explained. i haven't yet explored the recipes. i'm adding it to my foodie bookmarks, for sure.

it also has a neat food "calendar": http://www.practicallyedible.com/edib...

according to the site:
"Practically Edible is now in its beta test phase. Reports of bugs and errors will be gratefully received.

Research for this site began summer 2000. It has been 8 years in the works."

they want feedback. please help them out.

direct link to the index page:

        handy conversion wizard, too.

according to the front page, today is "Eat whatever the heck you want Day".

        works for me.
