  1. The Saloon is a great Italian place. I've only been there 2 or 3 times, but each time, my meal was really good. Planning on going back soon. The website is www.saloonrestaurant.com. They're located at 750 S. 7th Street in Philly.

i like the saloon, but it is definitely not what you are looking for. for mexican, i would definitely recommend xochitl. distrito's atmosphere will not appeal to all me thinks, though if you guys are younger than 32/33 then it should be fine. i am dying to go back to xochitl, though i loved my meal at distrito.

davio's is too expensive but paradiso is a v good selection. i would also recommend modo mio on girard (though it can get loud). for american, you can not go wrong with southwark i hear. :)

    1. Here are two suggestions:

Paradiso, on Passyunk Ave in South Philly. Excellent food, good bar, lively atmosphere.

Davio's, center city. Italian steak house (some of everything), more upscale, again very good food and lively atmosphere. Also more expensive.

Both these places are very popular; make sure you call for a reservation.

      1. I agree with Buckethead - skip the Saloon! I'll second Paradiso, and add Xochitl on 2nd street for Mexican

Las Bugambilias and Distrito are also both very good, Mexican, and have fun atmosphere (Distrito especially).

        2. how much are you looking to spend?

branzino is solid italian, and nice if you are able to get a table in the back outdoors area (assuming the weather cooperates)

i want to spend around 100 bucks for two people...maybe a little more.

im looking for a modern/neat looking atmosphere (not romantic, necessarily)

            think TANGERINE

I think Distrito would be great. It might be a little more than your price point if you drink a lot, but it's fantastic Mexican food (way better than El Vez), fantastic margaritas, and a really fun atmosphere (I'm over 40 and my hubby and I loved it). The decor is busy, but really fun--masks, lots of cool different seating, lots of color, a nice lively buzz w/o being too noisy. I'd go for a fun birthday anytime. It's def. not romantic, though, if that's what you want.
