<content>My friend and I recently tried the new and struggling Restaurant LaLa in the Honda Plaza in Little Tokyo--a French-style Japanese place, with a very light touch. The food is fabulous! Dishes range from classic to creative and the prices are extraordinarily reasonable.

My friend had handmade scallop-shrimp stuffed ravioli covered in a light lobster cream sauce (...that was bisque-like heavenly!!). I had a plate of 3 large stuffed cabbages...the sauce was brothy and delicate--to tell the truth, better than my mother's sauce... Dessert was a homemade nougat ice cream, that was silky and cool. The service was sweet and prompt, just as any good Japanese place should be. Our bill came out to about $20/person.

The only trouble is because of its newness, there weren't any other customers! This place is really excellent and deserves to live!

Can I encourage you to try it out?

LaLa is located at 424 E. 2nd Street, between Alameda and Central.

<content>It sounds good to me and I would be interested in trying it. Did you happen to notice if there were many (any) vegetarian offerings on the menu? Can you remember some of the other dishes? Thanks!

      <content>Ah.

Hmmm. Let me think about this...

There were lots of meaty things. I had on a subsequent visit braised beef tongue with the most heavenly demiglace sauce in the whole world. The beef just melted in my mouth...I'm sure this really isn't appealing to a vegetarian though...^_^ My friend had some very magnificent lamb chops too.

I have to say what was truly excellent in the veggie department were the salads, which were large enough to be a meal and really delightful. Nicoise?

I'm trying to think what else was there.

On the dessert side, they offer a very satisfying homemade ice cream!

Does that help?
