Ebinger's cake with mocha frosting and slivered almonds

I have been trying to find recipe that used to be in Ebinger's bakery. My mom said it was her favorite cake as a kid. It was a yellow cake with mocha frosting and slivered almonds. Anyone able to find one close?

      It wasn't
'frosting" it wasn't "creme" it was mocha buttercream.....with flaked almonds...

        Ok, two things:
        1) I never liked mocha
        2) In spite of that, the Ebingers Mocha with (yes) flaked almonds and mocha buttercream was IN-FREAKING-CREDIBLE. I've been trying to get that recipe forever. *sigh*

Have also been searching for this recipe for years...A happy memory of many family gatherings from my childhood in Brooklyn.

Here's a recipe for the Blackout Cake from Cooks Country. I've never had the original, but this recipe sure looks good.

Ebinger's Mocha Cake was my favorite, along with their rightfully famous ..Blackout Cake...I hope someone comes up with the recipe.....however what I do remember is that it was "flaked almonds" ...not slivered! and the frosting was a rich smooth (cooked) mocha buttercream....! The mouthfeel was downright erotic!

          God I loved Ebingers!!!

I can tell you that my first job was at Ebingers Bakery 38 years ago. It was an experience like no other. In response to the Mocha Buttercream it was slivered almonds not flaked. Every bite was heaven. I have tried to reproduce the buttercream over the years with no success. I am still trying. I will also let you know that the recipes were always kept a deep dark secret. I am surprised that some of the family members have not sold them so others can enjoy the lifeline of their family and carry on a tradition that would certainly live on in many hearts and tastebuds.

definitely flaked NOT slivered, and only on the sides not the top.
