Second Week Paris Dining Report
Only three meals out this week, rest of time cooked at the apartment
Chez Denise-Dinner, three people
Shared hot fish pate as well as frisee avec crouton for entree, superb as usual, how the get that much butter in the sauce withour it breaking is a skill l do not think l can do; Plats were tomatoes farçie, good but drier than usual, salmon avec pommes de terre in another buttery sauce, cooked absolutely perfectly, haricot mouton, mutton was rich , not too fatty and the beans were legendary. All came blisteringly hot, a sore point if not for me. Dessert was one chocolate mousse for the three of us, with carafe d'eau and liter of house brouilly meal was 130€, totally delightful
Senderans- with a chowhounder and a food writer, got a last minute reservation for dinner
amuse was little fluffy fishey things, ok then 'tempura' langoustines dipped in hot sweet sauce, best thing of night, served finger bowls having chinese tea for washing. Next was either maigret or pork loin deboned and served with carrots or beets whichever. For me the vegetables were the best parts, carrots were great, pork was odd at best. Palate cleanser was pineapple, cocoanut, lime, and gelatin in mirepoix cubes, sweet and refreshing. Dessert they really showed well. There were four, one for each of us, which we passed around. Dacquoise, good; millefueille with nut pastry cream, ok; strawberry rhubarbe pastry, ok; chocolate puddle hot with little cakes, totally outrageous and excellent, not normally a chocolate fan. May have missed a course. Each course was paired with wine, there were 6 or7. Bottled badoit and no coffee 620€ for 4
Chez L'Ami Jean for dinner. As we were getting fooded out, one person ordered the prix fixe of three courses and the other two split a cote de veau. First course was a soup with a ton of charred leek in a cream soup that was wonderful. Secondly was the veal chop for two and a pintade, all with pomme de terre puree and extra whole fingerling pomme de terre. Everything was perfect. Then one rice pudding for the three of us. With tap water and a bottle of cahors bill was 128€ and was wonderful. As l said in another post, only trouble was the man next to me eating his palombe and l had to cut out meat at the same time as space was so non-existant.
Home cooking all wonderful
