You can try Juliano's Raw in Santa Monica. Their food is interesting, even for non-raw food junkies or vegans. There is also the stand-by of Real Food Daily that has several locations sort of nearby.

Your young vegetarian might enjoy Buddha's Belly, on Beverly Blvd., about 2 miles east of Beverly Hills. It's a pan-asian restaurant with many vegetarian options, and the "scene" is pretty cool too. Fair prices (we spent around $35 each, on two appetizers, two entrees and several glasses of wine), and an interesting panoply of standard asian dishes, from pad thai to vietnamese noodle soup. We had a delicious black cod entree, and a great ahi tuna appetizer. Service was excellent when I went there.

There've been some mixed reviews from other posters on this board, but for the money, the scene, the service and the variety, I think it'd be a good option for you and your charge.

I've linked below a relatively recent review from the LA Weekly, which includes address and phone number.

If I were a 16 year old, vegetarian or not, I would love the Newsroom Cafe. Yummy fruit drinks, fashion magazines, internet connections, brownies with coffee ice cream and a hip crowd -- what more could a teenager want? Plenty of vegetarian options - chili, vegeburgers, and tasty flatbread pizza things as well as dozens of others.

There's Kate Mantilini that's not necessarily vegetarian but healthy-oriented. Xian is a decent Chinese restaurant on Canon. Il Fornaio on Beverly has good pastas. Being 16, she'll probably enjoy the Barney Greengrass at the top of Barney's. Just a few ideas...

Paru's is a great vegetarian restaraunt. They serve indian cuisine but it not your standard saag and paneer dishes, those aren't even on the menu. It's located at 5140 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood and the building itself is a nice little oasis in an otherwise ugly stretch of Sunset. You must ring the bell for entrance. Reasonable prices as well.

Govinda's at the Hare Krishna Temple at Venice and Watseka. I was 16 not so long ago, and I loved it then. I love it still. My meat-eating friends and family don't miss meat when they go; I don't even miss garlic and onions.
