Looking for a really good Italian, romantic restaurant to take my wife for her birthday this evening. Any suggestions, anywhere in the city? We've been to many but thought I'd mix it up a bit.

We just celebrated our anniversary at Erminia on the UES. Very small and intimate. The food was exquisite!

Apizz is on the LES. Italian, and definitely romantic with exposed brick and an open hearth. Always gets recos on here.

Past the usual Batali et al recs, I really like Masseria on W. 48th. Much as a I hate the Times Square area, I've had some great meals here. Try the rabbit! Also Osteria del Circo.

Perhaps Convivia in Tudor City? While it is less formal than the former L'Imperio, the food is still delicious, and the atmosphere relaxing and causal. The garden is still very beautiful and sort of romantic.

Wound up at Erminia...it was the perfect setting...my wife loved it but was freezing the whole night as they know how to jack up the AC! We'll be back during the holidays - food was great.

So glad to hear it. Do you mind sharing more about what you ate, and perhaps what the prices are like? I've always wanted to try it.

                  Thanks!

My wife had the Pollo Salsiccia (boneless chicken and sausage with mushrooms in balsamic vinegar reduction/sauce). Fantastic. She started with their special salad of the evening which was also great. I did the special ravioli in a cream sauce which was beautifully handcrafted (not your standard square cut industry standard ravioli). Another winner. Started with the steamed clams & mussels. Very nice wine list as well. Prices were not bad at all. Median entree price was about $25. Ambience made the whole night though. My wife can't wait to see what it looks like during the holidays.

The few times I have been to Ermenia I always left happy. Glad you enjoyed....
