Dim Sum Chinatown friday night DINNER, party of 12, fun ambience, Want carts

I have read everyones posts, and have had lunch at Pings and somewhere else in Chinatown for lunch.
I want to have dinner for 12 with an authentic, fun atmosphere. It will be late like 9:30 pm.
I have read that there are no carts at dinner...but really? Nowhere?

Please let me know

  1. As far as I know dim sum is usually done only in the morning through afternoon. My bet that it's not done at night is that restaurants serve dinner.

    1. Although here in the States dim sum is usually a brunch-lunch affair, it is not in itself just reserved for lunch. Diamond on Eighth in Brooklyn's Chinatyown, for example, used to serve dim sum late at night, as well. (I haven't been for a while, so I don't know if they still do.)
If I were you, I'd call some of the big Manhattan dum sum places to see if you can get dim sum in the evening. Howeve, getting it on carts might be a problem.

      1. Nowhere. Only night time dim sum I've seen on carts was in San Diego--and it was a cart full of afternoon leftovers. Most of us would consider dim sum at night like eating Wheaties for dinner. However, there's always off the menu dim sum at night at Dim Sum Go Go or at Red Egg.
