NORTH YORK CITY CENTRE- where to dine before Jersey Boys

meld_la Sep 26, 2008 09:38 AM

We bought my parents Jersey Boys tickets for next week and I'd like to recommend a couple of restaurants for them prior to the play.

They like nice food, but nothing too heavy- some of their usual suspects are Studio Cafe and Boba.

They do like Auberge Du Pommier, but their plan is to subway, so ideally they can stop either at North York Centre or even Sheppard and then eat and walk to the theatre.

Any suggestions? The two I've found are Chez Laurent and Mezza Notte, so any thoughts on these places would be great too.

Thanks!

Chez Laurant has a cozy atmosphere to it - imagine eating at Grandma's house, as it is essentially a house converted to restaurant, and they have 'grandma's' dishes to match too.

The food there is pretty good (Italian and French) - their lasagna is fantastic (they describe it as "North America's Best Lasagna"), but the pasta is nothing to rave about, but is still quite good. I liked that their anti pasto dish was quite generous.

In terms of the French food, I've only had their French Onion Soup, which was of the less-cheese variety.

Cravings on Yonge street is good, if they like Asian fusion food. That is where I went with my mom when we saw the play. It is great BTW.

Ichiban on Spring Garden is very good. They have brown rice sushi and their fish is always fresh. Not far from the theatre.

there is another Ichiban in the Empress Centre across from NY centre

my experiences at Mezza Notte have always been disappointing, despite raves from others...
