The Matterhorn Chef, my 2nd favorite Swiss/German restaurant in LA food-wise (but my favorite room in town period), has kicked off their annual Oktoberfest extravaganza. Try it on a Friday or Saturday and prepare to wash your eyes out with pickle juice as Chef Ueli, straight out of a Max and Moritz cartoon, dances out to the stage with pink cheeks and a dripping roast harpooned on the end of a long fork. On good nights he sings.

Enjoy.

What's your 1st favorite swiss/german restaurant? We used to like Mosel Celler on Pico; it closed for some unknown reason--it was always crowded. Knoll's Black Forest Inn is good, but expensive.

Knoll's is my fave, though I wish that the lux hunting lodge feel of the lounge extended to the rest of the place. On bright mornings the summery main room feels like a good to great hotel restaurant in Baden Baden. I think that I'd prefer a rifle or ammo muzzle to a bunch of daisies.

I'm afraid I never had a chance to try Mosel, alas.
