Produce Shopping at the 99 cent store?

I've found articles on the internet that say that produce shopping here is a good deal, especially the way times are now.

You can find carrots, broccolli, bagged salads, cucs, bananas, other produce and canned goods 99 cents each....

Seems good to me! Anyhow, after talking about it with a friend, they've shared that they would pass up shopping for food items here because of minor defects?

Any thoughts?

If you don't live near one, I wouldn't go out of the way, as it's very hit or miss on the individual stores. Some of them don't do a very good job of removing the rotten stuff . Sometimes you do hit the jackpot, and they carry some good brands here in CA...such as Earthbound organic celery and lettuce mixes, del Cabo cherry tomatoes, and the Dulcinea melons. The produce is all prepackaged...no picking out individual pieces. Recently the honeydew melons and white peaches have been good.
