Roadhouse in Brookline
I stopped by there tonight, rather late, wanting to try the American Chop Suey on their menu. I know this is no indication of what the kitchen is capable of, but I've never been served such crap in my life before. I was going for illeteration, but thought I would have been censored. This ia an old favorite that I haven't had in years and I was thinking it would be great in a new barbeque place. As a former school teacher, I can say the the cafeterian in my elementary school served a better version. This was mushy and without any distinguishing taste. I asked for a pepper mill, there was none. When I still mentioned the blandness, the waitress brought out a small plate of minced herbs from the kitchen. Dill really managed ot perk it up a bit, yah! I made a wrong choice tonight to evaluate this place, but any restaurent doesn't send out poor food like this Additionally, the rather small pours of the house white were nine dollars.
On the plus side, the waitress, was very friendly, the service incredibley fast. The chop suey arrived two minutes after I ordered it. It probably had been sitting around since Monday to be so mushy. A friend who runs a restaurant nearby joined me, but the kitchen had closed by then, but the waitress managed to serve her some corn bread, which was decent. It's always fun to visit a new place and you go there with great expectations, so when you are disappointed, you are doubly unhappy. I'll definetly go back to try the brisket. Anyone else have any comments about this place.
