In my world, it doesn't get better than Alinea. I was a doubter ("I want to eat my food; not play with it.") but one meal made me a convert. Achatz has taken a brilliant approach to food, including all the senses and playing with all the senses. The food, the presentation, the service -- everything is extraordinary. Some courses are literally a single bite; others are more like "small plates."

Do be aware that it will cost you. Alinea offers a tasting for $145 and a tour for $225. You will also want the wine pairing.

And Erik, you can release the caplock by hitting the key on the left of the keyboard.

This month's Gourmet magazine has a flattering write up about Achatz and Alinea. I have never been there, but after reading it, it sure made me want to go.
