GREEK SALAD IN BALTIMORE AREA

I've gone from never having a Greek salad to having one almost every day for the past 6 weeks. Anyone have any thoughts as to the best Greek salad in the Baltimore area? Also, where would people recommend to get feta cheese?

Thanks-

The best feta for Greek salad is the Bulgarian stuff. The only local place I know of that sells it is the Middle Eastern Bakery on Hamilton Ave. just west of Harford Rd.

Prima sells excellent Bulgarian feta at reasonable prices.

Good to know. It's probably where the place on Hamilton Ave gets theirs.

The Feta at Trinacria is very good and also pretty cheap.

For the record, I was in Greece for my honeymoon last year, and their Greek salad is very different from what we think of. No lettuce in it at all. Sliced peppers, diced tomatoes, wedged onions, some lemon juice, spices, a slice of feta on top, and some very high quality olive oil to dress it.

That being said, I agree on the Desert Cafe having a good one. And I do like the dressing at Samos.

Thats why I would always recommend the Greek Village Salad at Ikaros
tomato, cukes, pepers, feta, anchovies pepperocini and a good dressing
and if you catch it in the summertime when they are using local tomatoes
        badabing!

Sweet! I may have to go check it out this weekend. Never had the Greek salad there. Maybe I can catch the end of summer tomatoes!

Whenever I go to Ikaros, I always get the taramasalata and stuffed grape leaves, too.

Not for the salad, or the feta, but the dressing on Samos' Greek Salad is delicious. I haven't been there in a while so I hope it hasn't changed.
Wegman's has a decent selection of feta.

Just to clarify, that's Desert Cafe. They serve mediterranean food.

I don't know about "best" because it's such a basic kind of salad, but two of my favorites are the one I used to get at The Penn Restaurant (corner of Pratt and Penn St. in West Baltimore - I presume it is still open, tho it's been a couple of years since I've been there) and the other at the Mt. Olympus carry out stall at Lexington Market. Both of them have good souvlaki if you want to have more than just a salad. Samos's Greek salad is predictably predictable as well.

Kalli's Court has a terrific salad. It seems as though many restaurants now offer "Greek"salads.

I buy my feta from Eddie's in Ruxton or Wegman's in Hunt Valley.

Keep trying any Greek salads wherever you go. You'll get the gist of what is good or just ordinary. FoiGras

I get my feta from Prima Foods, and Ikaros is my favorite restaurant for Greek (village) salad.

I love the greek salads and especially the gyros at Dimitri's in Catonsville.
