Tierras Argentinas, Fresh Meadows
1st visit...convenient location on LIE north frontage road at Parsons Blvd (just east of Kissena).
Pleasant room, uncrowded Tues night. Soccer game on TV in the bar in the front.
Nice small selection of inexpensive wines from Argentina. Complimentary cheese-wrapped ham with dressing along with bread was a nice touch.
We had parillada plus an order of skirt steak/sausage/short rib to make it a meal for two. Parillada was these items plus some pork intestine, morcilla, sweetbereads and another thin sausage.
Steak and ribs excellent; morcilla quite good, worlds better than Pampas Argentinas in Forest Hills but not sublime like La Porteña's; sweetbreads and intestine fine but could have been crispier, also not very much of them compared to La Porteña; sausage unremarkable but tasty; accompanying salad was good, fries were extremely crispy and marvelous. Chimichurri was pretty good. Reasonable prices.
We liked this place, the location is good when you aren't in the mood to deal with the congestion in Jackson Heights. Many other classic Argentinian dishes on the menu.

They also have special on Empanadas to go. Very good deal, and the empanadas are not bad. Put em in the freezer for when guest come over....

Sadly I went yesterday and had a bad meal. The place is visually appealing, not as kitchy as Portena and more comfortable and better decorated then the three joints on the corner of Corona and Junction. I have been going to those three for over a decade and despite the fact that T.A. is a little closer and parking is easier I will stick with the others.
The meal started off well with the ham, cheese and herbed oil as a gratis app. The oil was better for dunking the bread then the frozen butter in the foil and plastic tub. Next up was a chicken empanada. Sorry MOREKASHA, but the one I got was terrible. It was mahoganey brown in color with severe black burns on the bottom. Inside the super thin dry crust was burned beyond recognition fillings. I knew it was going to be a problem when I heard the waitress call my order to the kitchen and the super hot empanada arrived about two minutes later. I didn't hear the "ding: but it was clearly microwaved. I had the rib steak, the specials list called it churrasco, and it was 16 oz of charred just righ,t tasty meat. It was cooked to medium well and not the medium I requested but it was very good.. The fries however were a disaster. They were coated with something that gave the surface of the fry a nubby, bumpy texture and were undercooked in the middle. For dessert I ordered a cafecito, was corrected and told it would be espresso and was served an 8oz, filled to the rim bitter coffee. It was accompanied by a partially frozen in the center tiramisu. Total cost was approx. $35. Oh well, I gave them a shot and now I will continue to return to the corner of Corona and Junction for my Argie fix.

Really can't compare this place or any Argentinean restaurant in Queens to Pampas Argentinas in Forest Hills. Pampas Argentinas has such an inviting atmosphere and the quality of the ingrediants are far beyond anything at Tierras Argentinas or La Portena. You just can't compare!

Was just at Tierras Argentinas this weekend and I have to say the place was taking over by new owners a few months ago and everything about the place is amazing!!! The owner came and sat with us making us feel like family. The food was to die for and the atmosphere and service was great. The empanadas were fresh from the oven and delicious. I was told they make them fresh everyday using their grandmothers recipe!!! Our steaks were cooked to perfection and our sangria had a nice kick to it. If you haven't been there since the new owners have taken over then you are missing out on the perfect dining experience!!!
