ISO Chocolate birthday cake

Any recommendations for a great chocolate birthday cake in the Beverly Hills/West Hollywood area? I don't like Sweet Lady Jane's chocolate desserts. What about Sussina? Any other thoughts? Thanks.

  1. Viktor Benes'/Gelson's Chocolate Parisian cake is lovely, and reasonably priced to boot.

I agree -- this is my favorite chocolate cake. My hubby got it for my birthday yesterday and it was amazing as always!

      2. I like the shadow cake at Crumbs Bakery, though it is very, very sweet.

        1. Highly recommend Susina's chocalate bear cake!

            bear or beer?

Now chocolate beer cake, that is a yummy thing. I like mine with a rich stout or porter, and something better than Guiness

Sorry, no beer (which actually sounds like a rather nauseating combination to me, but tastes vary). It's "bear" as in the animal (altho I have no idea why). Does have a bit of rum in it. Chocolate devil's food cake layered with white chocolate mousse, chocolate mousse w/ milk choc. chunks & a just a bit of rum mixed in. Delicious (& rich)! Also recommend Susina's chocolate raspberry cake if you'd like some fresh fruit w/ your chocolate.

Don't knock is great in cake. Never tried Gramercy tavern Gingerbread, or chocolate proter raspberry cake? You are missing out!

            1. Had a chocolate cake from Buttercake Bakery (I think that's what it's called, Pico between Overland and Bev Glen) a few months ago ... stunning!

I concur. It's a very homemade-tasting cake, but in a good way. Comforting.
