Costco - Frozen USDA Prime Bone-In Rib Eye - $10/lb

My local Costco in Maryland is now stocking a vacuum packed pair of USDA Prime steaks for $9.99/lb. This is about half the price of many of the mail order steaks, and just a few dollars more than the fresh USDA Choice steaks in the meat case.

I have only tried them once, they were well trimmed and beautifully marbled. They were very tasty, even after being frozen. Anyone else tried them? What did you think?

  1. I recall a recent thread on the same subject that referred to the ribeyes. I personally prefer the NY strips in this particular case. What was your choice?

I've tried the frozen prime ribeyes from Costco. Although good, I think the choice cut ribeyes are more flavorful and overall better.

I agree. The Prime ribeyes didn't look much better - if at all - compared to the Choice in the regular case on the last two batches that I checked. I normally reach for ribeyes out of habit, but when I saw the NY strips, I must have stood there for ten minutes and tried to find a pack of ribeyes that would compare but no luck...

to me the strips were superior to the rib eyes.
