  1. Michi Cafe on Pharmacy, just South of Sheppard....Above average Japanese cuisine (raw & cooked)....good for lunch and dinner.

    1. Remezzo's serves decent Italian food in a nice setting. Southwest corner, in the plaza where the McDonald's is.

I'll second Remezzo's...it been around for a long time becuse it serve fresh italian food and good sized portions at a good price. Nothing fancy (chicken pamesan, etc.), and the decor's a bit dated (think 1980s) but it's not bad if you're in the area

      2. Second Cafe Michi!

        1. If you like Hakka Indian/Chinese, Lin Garden is in the same plaza as Le Cafe Michi. There's also a roti shop and a new shawarma place in there, although I haven't tried either. In the other direction, there's Chinese Beef Lamb House at Birchmount/Sheppard - Xinjiang style Chinese. I've only tried a couple of the lamb dishes but found them pretty tasty. A little further afield, there's the Lebanese Bakery on Birchmount just north of Ellesmere - good manakish.
At any rate, you have some options without resorting to Taco Hell. :)

Surprisingly, there is this little hold in the wall place called the "Royal Chinese Restaurant" at Sheppard and Midland. It is the only Chinese restaurant I will eat it. It looks shabby but always has a line up. I am surprised no one has mentuoned it on the forum yet.

Before discovering Maple Yip and Fantasy Eatery, Royal Chinese used to be our after-work go-to place as well. I really liked their inexpensive steamed oysters and other well priced seafood dishes too. Plus it's a bonus that they open til 1:30am most nights. We got yelled at once by the lady owner on a busy night while waiting for a table, so after that we stopped going.

On a side note, someone suggested Lin Garden. We decided to give a try tonight after passing by it after our Cafe Michi meals. It was one of the worse meals that I've ever had in my life. The only edible dish was the mushroom fried rice (actually had some wok hay to it). The peking duck was dry and flavourless, just deep fried ++). The brocolli and mushroom (in chinese the menu said gai lan veggie but they served regular brocolli) was swimming in a bland plasticy brown sauce. The worse dish was the spicy Manchurian Fish fillets. The batter was so thick and the fish was almost like mush, such that I couldn't pick up a piece in my chopsticks without it disintegrating. The sauce was glowing red like fake blood from a low budget horror movie, and all I could taste was spice and nothing else.

The funny thing was that we were sitting by the front desk and the "Manchurian" dishes were flying off out of the kitchen like it's the best dish in town. Surprisingly, I didn't notice a single table of Chinese people there, yet hordes of other folks kept coming to get takeout and such. Go figure.

It sounds like Lin Garden used to be good but took a sharp decline recently. It was discussed in a recent thread:

jlherman, Royal Chinese has been mentioned before in this forum, it just that there are many chinese restaurant in this style in that area of Scarborough, it is good with good value, but I think it is really not something that stands out from the crowd.

                2. how much is le cafe michi generally? I know their Omakase is like 45 but how about ala carte?
