Rialto, Uncommon Grounds
A friend and I took advantage of that Sept. bar special at Rialto where you get a specialty cocktail and a choice of antipasto for $12. The drinks were a vodka, chambourd, splash of champagne and not sure what else or a rye drink. We got one of each and the vodka drink was the stronger one, and the non pink one. Seemed odd. So I ended up with rye and he went with vodka. We got a prosciutto app. and a tomato/buffalo moz. These were truly tiny bits of food. We should have ordered some of the other bar snacks which sounded good (risotto fritters for one) but the bartender had hardly paid attention to us. Friend is a little punky looking and maybe that led the bartender to talk to everyone else first. It's a pleasant place otherwise and I'd give that another shot w/ maybe a burger and some other food if they offer it again. A peanut butter/choc. chip cone from Christina's after was okay but not so exciting.
Friends decided to bail on the wait at Deluxe Town Diner and got seats at Uncommon Ground on Sun. That was a very nice meal. Crazy busy but efficient. Lots of great sounding things. I went with lemon ricotta poundcake for $7.25 and it was a lot of food. Not quite as good as the first time I got that style I got in Mpls but fine. Friend liked her sweet potato pancakes, home fries looked great (for a change), will go back.

If you had the same frenetic bartender I had at Rialto recently, I'd say it's not prejudice, but just bad service that's his problem. He wasn't even able to acknowledge our existence for so long that we ended up sitting in the lounge. Yuck.

re: Lucymax
I never stray from the regular (hot and iced), both of which I think are good... a bit stronger than your typical diner coffee but less hardcore than Starbucks/Peets. They offer an overwhelming variety of versions (latte, espresso, etc) and flavors (hazelnut to snickers - blech), so something tells me they believe they know how to make coffee. There's typically one gal stationed at the front who acts as barrista/cashier, but I've noticed recently that servers are acting as their own cashiers, so perhaps coffee business is on the rise?
