Raincity Grill for brunch (Vancouver)
So we're heading to RCG for brunch tomorrow for a family meal, location chosen by someone else. I've been several times for dinner over the last few years and found the quality inconsistent and steadily declining. Comments on this board are all over the map, and then yesterday I read Alex Gill's scathing review in the G&M on Sept 17

Is there hope for my meal tomorrow? The menu posted on line looks less fussy than dinner, but I called and they are changing the brunch options today, though some items like the French toast will stay. I'll post on what transpires, but I'm curious if anyone has been lately, or what you thought of the Gill review, which to me seemed to reflect my not-so-recent experiences at RCG.

Hope your bruch goes better than your recent experiences and Gill's dinner. It has been a number of years since we were last there. Back then it was a spot we always went for lunch during visits to Vancouver in large part, as Gill points out, due to their focus on regional food and particularly wine. It was where I was introduced to wines from Kettle Valley and the like.
Too bad that it sounds like it has fallen upon tougher times......

re: fmed
So the brunch was good. And the service was excellent. But I think the review must have had some effect as the room was very empty for 11 am on a sunny Sunday. I had the French toast with a side of double smoked bacon -- toast was light and fluffy, compote nice and tangy, not too much evidence of vaunted mascarpone though. Others seemed to enjoy their Dungeness Benedict, omelette and sandwich. For five the bill came to just over $100 with a couple of coffees and juices. I probably wouldn't go back for brunch on my own dime but it was very pleasant.
