I'd really like to buy a couple of bottles of txakoli, the light, slightly effervescent Basque white wine that goes so well with garlicky food. Where in (preferably north) OC can I get it? I don't want to go all the way to La Espanola in Harbor City, and I didn't see any at BevMo *or* Cost Plus in Villa Park.

Thanks!

Sorry, this is less than helpful since it is not in OC but I will go ahead and say it anyway, K&L in Hollywood has Txakolina. And they do ship.

try vendome liquor in fullerton its off yorba linda blvd.my family is basque and to be honest ive never thought txakoli went well with anything. my family served it as a type of palate cleanser and in Basque country i didnt find it in restaurants paired with food too much i had it mostly in pincho bars.

I like it... it's a nice, light, pretty fruity wine and it's great on a hot day when I don't feel like drinking a heavy red.

I'll try Vendome next time I go up to Gem Meats -- thanks!

On Chef Centeno's last night cooking at Opus, I was poured a glass of Txomin Etxaniz Txakolina 2005 with a bluefin tuna course (two ways, sashimi and tartare). I thought it was a good pairing. The wine itself tasted quite tart, like a granny smith apple.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find it at any of the typical places around the South Bay / Long Beach / OC (though like a moron I forgot to try La Española). I had to order it from a place in Northern California. But if you can find it (or don't mind ordering off the Web), I recommend it. It's around $20.
