Having lived and worked (and most importantly having enjoyed the culinary delights of this magnificent island) for six months a year for the past five years, I have to agree that the WALL HOUSE has the best lunch on island. Sting's former chef makes a different "plat du jour" as well as a "salade du jour" every day, which will cost you under 10 euros--- but will leave you feeling like a million bucks.
It is definitely true that one way to lunch more enjoyable and inexpensively is to eat in at your hotel or villa, or even grab some light provisions and a few bottles of rose and hit any of the beautiful beaches of St Barths! If you go that way, the only place to shop in my opinion is Marche de L'OASIS in Lorient. They have the freshest foods and the best selection on island of American favorites as well as some prepackaged salads AND have the best deals on wine on island.
One other places not mentioned by any bloggers to date that is located in Gustavia and VERY local is Do Brazil. Do Brazil is the delicious restaurant located on Shell Beach, and just below the restaurant there is a snack bar which offers sandwiches and salads throughout the day until sunset (or until they run out, which can happen much sooner in high season!
Piment, Le Creperie and Andy's are, of course, always great picks as well for "less expensive" lunch options and favored by tourists and locals as well!
I wasn't sure by your post when you will arrive, but whenever it is....you're sure to love it! ENJOY!

Well, there's no such thing as an inexpensive lunch on St. Barth (high or low season), unless dining in at your villa (which is lovely, too!) However, you really can't get a bad meal anywhere on the island - the food is outstanding everywhere you go! Andy's Hideaway is always good, as is the Sand Bar at Eden Rock (lots of great people watching on St. Jean beach!) Le Route du Buccaneers on the harbor in Gustavia is also very nice. Enjoy!!

I'm assuming you will be there in high season -- lots of places closed during the off season. Also, realize that "inexpensive" is a relative term. That having been said:
Wall House -- 9.50 Euro plat du jour is excellent. Best "deal" on the island.
Chez Rolande "Wishing Well" -- Authentic creole dishes. Very laid back.
Kiki-E Mo -- describes itself as a gourmet Italian deli.
La Creperie -- crepes of all kinds -- snacks -- ice cream.
Le Piment -- great paninis, plats du jour, salads.
Le Select -- "cheeseburger in paradise" place. Not really very good, but cheap!
Andy's Hideaway -- try the pizzas and salads.
These are just some of the ones I have been to. There are numerous little local places all over the island that I hear do a good job. If I had one meal to try "local specialities" I would go to the Wishing Well (Chez Rolande).
When are you going? Our next trip is in early January. Lots of beautiful people from the yachts and lots of energy going on that time of year. Hope you have a ball!
