New Sioux Falls Restaurant "K" - Excellent!
Two weeks ago I had dinner at a new restaurant in Sioux Falls called simply "K". It is located in the Eastbank area on N Reid street between 8th st and 10th st. They are so new that they aren't in the phone book or online yet - I had to have a friend who works nearby stop in to make the reservation for me. I'm glad I did because they were packed.
It was fantastic! One of the best meals I've had in the region by far. I am so excited to have this place relatively nearby. They started us off with a wonderful potato leek soup - very fresh and not too heavy on the cream. Next we had a goat cheese tart with caramelized onions, also quite good. I would have preferred more onions and less goat cheese, but my husband thought it was great. I guess I just like a lot of onions! Then I had the black cod which was poached in an excellent fresh tomato reduction. It was packed with a deep tomato flavor. My husband ordered the 8 oz fillet with a hazelnut blue cheese sauce on top that was perfectly executed. The blue cheese was medium/mild and complemented the steak without overpowering it like some blue cheese toppings can do. The cooked it a perfect medium-rare (always interesting to see if a place can do that with an 8oz fillet) and we washed it all down with a delicious Malbec. The wine list was unique and had several great wines offered by the glass, which I'm always happy to see. For dessert they had several selections from the kitchen and from a glass bakery case near the front. I assume that they are purchasing the baked goods from Queen City bakery which is very close by. We pretty full so we went with a couple of beautiful cookies that they warmed up and were a nice finish to the meal.
The ambiance was on the urban/hip side of things and my one complaint about the space was that it was really loud because of all the hard surfaces. I don't really mind this, but if I were older or had trouble hearing it's not a place I would go to on a weekend night. Overall, K is a fantastic addition to the regional dining scene. Well worth a long drive and advance reservations.
I agree. K is wonderful and unique in Sioux Falls. They are open for dinner Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and the dinner menu changes weekly. There is always a vegetarian option, a chicken, a seafood, a few different meat options, (like lamb shanks, porterhouse steak, t-bone, veal, short ribs, or pork). Mussels are always on the menu (even though it's an entree we often order it for an appetizer and share it at the table). I love the house salad which is also always on the menu, it's got a nice and zippy balsamic dressing that I always crave! There is always another salad on the menu and a couple of appetizers too. There's a great unique wine list and the desserts are awesome! With the exception of one Queen City Bakery dessert they feature weekly, all of the desserts are made fresh right there. It can get a little noisy in there at times, but the carpet they put in there has toned down the volume a bit. The staff is always welcoming and friendly. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Sioux Falls!
