The March Of The Dumplings
The dumplings are marching on in their quest to become the pre-eminent Chinese subcuisine in the Los Angeles area. They have now established a beach head in West Covina in the Hong Kong Plaza, undeterred by the ongoing liquidation sale at the anchor Hong Kong Supermarket store which would seem to raise issues as to the viability of that particular shopping center which has always had trouble with vacancies. One Plus One Dumpling House offers many varieties of dumplings including fish, chicken and beef dumplings. The menu also lists "fruit dumplings" though the waiter had no idea what they were and they didn't have any. Menu also has a section of hand made noodle dishes. While the fish dumplings and chicken dumplings were pretty good I was disappointed that the dumplings were kind of small, reminiscent of those at Lily Bowl in Gilbert, AZ, being just a little larger than won ton sized. A current special offers free XLB for orders over $20. Street address is 1017 S. Glendora, but just drive into the shopping center and look to your far left.
Incidentally there appears to be a Laotian food counter in the front part of the supermarket space, called Lao Asian. I'm not familiar with Laotian food so I don't know how much of their menu (actually there's no menu, just signs on the wall) is Laotian and how much might be Thai, Chinese or something else. I also wonder how they'll be affected by the market closing.

I like One Plus One, juicy pan fried dumplings! I believe their new location in Chino Hills is their only one now.

re: TonyC
If they closed in June that means I may have been one of their last customers. (There were no other customers there that day.) One Plus One was the only remaining dumpling restaurant in the SGV that I know of that had chicken dumplings, though theirs wasn't particularly good.

re: ipsedixit
My guess is that they make their own dumplings. It took them 20 minutes to prepare my order, which I attribute to making them from scratch as opposed to running over to the Hong Kong Supermarket liquidation sale. Also the skins appeared to be nice and fresh and chewy. While smaller than normal, the dumplings were larger than the frozen kind you see in the stores, and also were mostly meat.
