Hi all. Has anyone been to this place on Colorado? I haven't been there in years; I forgotten all about it! Is it good? Worth a visit?
Thanks.

You know, it's decent, I guess not a destination, they have a nifty little happy hour for instance....And although I don't really eat there very often despite the fact that I could any day, they seem to have some really good daily specials. I had the albondigas(I think it was...)soup with a Pacifico to wash, it was very good and a killer deal as I recall.

While it is not an' amazing' restaurant, I really like it. It has a good margaritas, tasty chips and salsa, and quite decent mexican fare. For a neighborhood hang out, I like it quite a bit.

I used to eat there alot. Favorite item is the chicken flautas, which are in a flaky pastry crust, probably as far from "authentic" as you can get, but delicious. And there's several used bookstores on the block, which is allways a plus.

And how does it compare to the nearby El Cholo on Fair Oaks?

Not sure, as I have only eaten at the La Fiesta Grande on Mission in South Pasadena, which was fine, nothing special but not bad at all. El Cholo, on the other hand, is one of the most overrated restaurants I've ever been to. It's too bad that such a lovely space is wasted on greasy, gloppy and sloppily prepared food that could be from Taco Bell and simply thrown onto plates. I can't believe how packed it is every single night- it's overpriced, unattractive and unappealing food in action.

Amen. I've been twice (at the request of a friend) and was shocked both times at how poor the service and mediocre the food was. It irritates me that much more when I think about the afternoons I spent downing pints @ John Bull.

Even my 13 year old daughter's taste buds could decipher that El Cholo's food was nothing special.

Every time I have passed by it, the waiting crowd seems as large or larger than those outside Saladang-1&2, a little further up the road!

It's been years since I've eaten there, too. It's not really distinctive, except for two things:

1) The "taco bar" - this is an all you can eat, family style, build your own deal. They bring all the ingredients to your table - chicken, beef, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, etc. - so you don't even have to get out of your seat. And they bring you as much as you want, so you may not be able to get out of your seat afterwards.

2) Cliff's Books next door. Open till midnite. Stuff yourself on tacos, and then go next door and browse the used books while you digest. Makes for a unique date.

Better Mexican places in Pasadena are:

- Mijares, on Pasadena Ave, N. of California (for margaritas)

- Lupitas, at Colorado and Sierra Madre (for seafood; great carnitas, too)

- La Cabanita (actually in Montrose, on Verdugo) is worth the drive for the cuisine. Killer pozole. Mole is also excellent, as are the stuffed chile dishes, sopes, and awesome breakfasts.
