Cheap live crabs in Newport Beach

This weekend, I picked up 2 live crabs for about $6 at Pearson's Port seafood in Newport Beach--they sell for $2.99 a pound and come in a range of sizes. I got a fat male with big claws (for my husband) and a female (with roe--yum!) for myself.

Prices on other things were also quite reasonable (I was also tempted by fresh sardines/smelts-- I couldn't tell which--going for $1.99 a pound, but I decided not to be greedy.)

Anyhow, the crabs were delicious--and their tastiness was only slightly diminished by my darling spouse singing morbid little ditties in their honor all through dinner ("Mr. and Mrs. Crab/ Went on a swim one day...")

I've been looking for live crabs for MONTHS, in the LA area. If it wasn't for your post, I'd still be a sad, crab-less little fella. THANK YOU for sharing this info!!! You rock!

The swordfish at Pearson's is a family favorite. We had another great meal of it on Fathers' Day.

Everything they have is the freshest I've found in the area.
