I've joined a book club of sorts (it may only meet once) and we want to meet at a bar. The bar should serve alcohol, not just beer and wine, and be located in Minneapolis or St. Paul. We need to be able to pull a couple of tables together and be able to hear each other. There will probably be 10 people, tops. It will be on a Wednesday night.

Any suggestions?

Champps at Sibley Plaza on West Seventh Street has a private room that you can reserve. It is a table that seats 10 or 12.

The bar area of Sapor is often not very populated and it's quite easy for a group of 10 to sit around and talk for a while. Perhaps if you called ahead they could reserve a space for you.

how about merlin's rest on lake street? cozy atmosphere, & they have those big wraparound booths, and a nice scotch list. the pub food is supposed to be good, though i haven't tried it. i emphatically do not rec breakfast food there. i'd call to make sure there won't be loud live music during the time you'd like to meet, as they frequently have performances

I have a friend that has a "knitting night" at Merlin's Rest (not quite like a book club, but in the same family of events). I really liked the waitress and the beer there. The BLT was okay, but I think I like American bacon better than Irish bacon on sandwiches - the Irish bacon was too chewy for a BLT.

The Local has a sweet little room where on a Sunday morning I saw a club meeting (Twin Cities British or something?). It has a glass door which can be closed, so even if the place had some noise on a Wednesday night this little room would be ideal. Looked good for a dozen people, if I recall correctly. Come to think of it, there are probably several spaces at The Local which would work, but the room that I am thinking of is located along the south side (go in the front door off Nicollet and turn right, then head towards the back and its halfway back against the right/south wall).
