Went last night to check out the new deal -- $2 tacos at Tremont 647. It was the first night so there were a few service snafus they will no doubt work out (forgot to bring the salsas, took a long time to get drinks, etc) but all in all, this is a good deal.

Started with momos and fontina tater tots to get our juices flowing. Good as always. A few margaritas and some wine later and the tacos arrived.

We had two small tacos each, you can choose hard or soft shell.
- Halibut was okay, but had too much cornmeal crust, masking the flavor of the fish.
- Carnitas was very good, with a fresh corn salsa it was a good combination
- Steak was deemed very good, although I didn't taste it
- they also had a veggie option but we didn't try it
- "side plate" came with a dallop of guacamole, some chipotle sour cream and a basic curdito
- salsas were tasty -- one red and one green - the salsa verde had a little kick
Portions are small, but totally reasonable for $2 -- these are three-bite tacos. 2 or 3 per person is a good start.

I much prefer the tacos at Taco Loco or Tacos Lupita, but there you can't get a pear margarita or a glass of malbec. This was a fun night, and I'd like to go back when they are more prepared for the taco-lovin' crowd.

I had the steak taco, crunchy shell, and enjoyed it. Definitely liked the steak more than the fish taco - as yumyum said the cornmeal coating overwhelmed the fish completely. Tater tots and margaritas were fab. Momos were a little disappointing, imo, just seemed not as tasty as usual.

Should also mention that the side plate is an additional $2 - totally reasonable in my book except when I remember that at Taco Loco I get a steak taco with everything on it for $1.75! But, that is an entirely different experience, of course.

Has anybody been to this recently?
I'm headed there tonight and planning on eating a lot of tacos. How is their guacamole and pico and things?

Yeah I had read about the menu changing weekly - so I wasn't sure what the deal was with the one on their website. The taco options on the website look awesome though...so I'll probably just order up one of each to start.

Thank you!!
