J Gold [moved from L.A. board]

He seems to be mentioned the most on these threads. Is his opinion/suggestion the one most important to you? How many times have you gone to a restaurant solely based on his recommendation? I know I have made several SGV trips because of him.

    1. I follow the reviews here more than I follow his.

        1. It's like wine critics - you follow the food critic who best suits your tastes. I personally find J Gold to be on the mark for most of his recs that I've tried. I have occasionally walked away from a few of his recs thinking, "meh," (Torafuku was a huge letdown) but his senses are as keen as his appetite is big for adventure, and when he puts his tastebuds into words, no matter how much one disagrees with his rec, reading poetry about food can't get any better...

            1. I find him to be generally untrustworthy when it comes to Chinese food.

Even when he's wrong, he's usually a good read. A bit over-the-top, but definitely different than your run-of-the-mill food critic.

Well, duh - that's like God saying Moses doesn't do Bible like me... :)
