Current 1/2 price, happy hour, after work, specials

cannedmilkandfruitypebbles Sep 16, 2008 08:31 AM

I am heading into the city on Thursday for a scotch tasting at 8:30PM. My friends and I would like to go out for some apps and a drink or two prior. I did some research on after work discounted apps and it appears that these deals come and go. I'm reaching out to hounds to help me find the places that are currently offering the best options. We are looking for some place in or around the Common, Back Bay area. Please let me know of the selections offered and the times they're offered.
Thanks!

Fleming's has a special $1.95 bar menu from 3-6pm, including a great burger and usually oysters and other bar stuff. Just a reminder, in MA, happy hours do not exist.

Right. As Michael Dukakis said in the 1980s, "No more fun of any kind."

But as others have said on this board (both here and on other threads), there are quasi-happy hour type food deals that can be found around the city.

Morton's has cheap apps, also McCormick & Schmick, tapas at Masa, $1 oysters at 28 Degrees, $1 apps from 5-6 at Great Bay.

Went to McCormick and Shmicks. Happy hour runs until 6:30. It's actually a pretty good menu considering the prices are dirt cheap. This is not a place I would normally eat at but the bartender was attentive and the $1.95 half pound burger and fries was pretty good, factor in the price and it was probably better than that.

Just curious but as I am not much of a drinker, would it be wrong of someone to take advantage of these very low prices and not order an alcoholic beverage? My sense is that it would definitely be frowned upon.

I don't drink, so I agree it's an awkward feeling. My solution is to bring all my alcohol-loving friends with me, who help subsidize my ultra-cheap meal.

As long as you order a beverage, with or without alchohol, you should be more than welcome.

I've sat at a bar and had the 1/2 price apps. without ordering any alcoholic beverages, remember the bartenders still rely on tips.

Yes, it's a very good deal but, only at the bar, the menu has several items including a good burger.

I love the McCormick & Schmick's at the Quincy Market Place and they have the best bar menu in town from 3:30 to 6:30. Their other location in Park Plaza would be very convient for you and I'm sure is just as good. I've been there after the theater for a late nite nosh and enjoyed myself. I think there is a one drink minimum, but that can be a coke if you have non drinkers, but for a scotch tasting, you might get an early start.

Red Hat near Gov't Center has 10 cent wings. I realize this isn't a meal like the burgers at McCormick and Schmick's, but 30 wings for 3 bucks is pretty hard to beat. It's Monday thru Weds I believe. 5PM to 10PM.

Plus the Hat has really strong drinks. ;-b I remember the endless days (and nights) of pitchers of Long Island iced teas and kamikazes back in my college days...

I bet those wings couldn't help that jag the next morning.

No, especially considering that some of the Red Hat jags went all weekend, more or less (and included occasional scorpion bowls from the Chinese place that used to be around the corner).

                    Ahh, memories...
